Hunting at Drake Ranch
Native mesquite pastures at Drake Ranch not only provide quality forage for livestock, but wildelife browse and thrive on this native vegitation as well. Unlike the high-fenced hunting ranches in South Texas, the Rolling Plains area is not noted for high-fencing, and the low ranch fences allow the strong genetics prevalent to this area to spread and multiply across fence lines.
These deer are not contained for a hunter to kill and pay by the inch for a hand raised deer mount, but are wild roaming fair chase game. About 120 years ago Quanah Parker's band of Quahadi Comanche warriors camped on the same banks of Groesbeck Creek and rode the plains to hunt deer and buffalo to feed his tribe before they moved to the Oklahoma Indian Reservation across the Red River. Although the buffalo are gone, the deer hunted by these fierce plains indians are still here, and so are the turkey and hogs!
